Good communicators know that accurate reporting is the foundation of sound journalism, and that sharing information must be tempered with ethical and responsible citizenship.
These tenets drive a TCU education and are the focus of the Schieffer School. As students learn to gather and disseminate information, they also learn to discern fact from fiction, balance a story and make the right call.
Once they grasp theory in the classroom and learn to structure a lead, out they go to practice their craft.
Students might see their byline in the TCU Daily Skiff or their face on TCU News Now. They might pitch a $30 million ad campaign or work for a public relations firm. Some will intern in London for companies like the Associated Press, NBC or a British advertising agency.
No matter what their field, students will be ready to take their place in the demanding marketplace of the 21st century.
The Schieffer School of Journalism is a part of the College of Communication.
The School consists of two units: The Division of Advertising/Public Relations and the Division of Broadcast and News-Editorial Journalism.
The Division of Advertising/Publications offers two majors: ad/PR and global ad/PR.
The Division of Broadcast and News-Editorial Journalism offers three majors: broadcast journalism, international news/editorial journalism, and news-editorial journalism. Besides the news-editorial specialization in newspapers and magazines, the news-ed degree program is available with specializations in photojournalism and publication design.
The School also offers Master of Science degrees in both journalism and advertising/public relations.
