Letter to supervisors of interns

Thank you for becoming a TCU Journalism internship mentor this semester.

There is no way the university could replicate the valuable lessons our interns learn by becoming part of your “real world.” Also, there is no more valuable credit hours our students could take than the internship that you make possible. On behalf of the university and our students, we want you to know how much we appreciate your service.

This web site features information about the internship program, including a student’s prerequisites for enrolling and the requirements for receiving credit.

Most importantly, there is an agreement for you to look over and sign that helps all of us work together and prevent misunderstandings.

Also, you’ll be able to find a copy of our evaluation form so that you’ll see the qualities we would like you to rate in the intern. The evaluation you provide accounts for the major part of the intern’s grade. We have stressed the demand in the real world for reliable performance. That is, being on time, and never being absent. You’ll note the first two points we request to be graded in the evaluation are punctuality and dependability.

Please fill out the form at the midpoint and at the end of the semester (once at the end of the summer term) and return it by fax or mail. The number and address are listed below. There is also a time report for you to fill out at the end of the term to verify that he or she completed 100 hours of work experience.

If during the course of the semester you observe any habitual shortcomings of the intern, I would appreciate your alerting us so that we might confer with the intern, and if possible, correct the deficiency. In addition, any suggestions you may have as to how we can improve our internship program are more than welcome.

Again, thanks for participating in the internship program. We are grateful.
