
Carmen Goldthwaite is a veteran journalist who now writes a column on Texas women syndicated throughout the state and is a freelance Texas history and travel writer.
She has worked for or written for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Houston Chronicle, the Dallas Morning News, and The New York Times. Goldthwaite won Texas Headliner awards for investigative journalism while on the education and federal courts beat for The Fort Worth Press, and then was syndicated with Scripps-Howard News International.
She worked as spokesperson, media relations manager and executive speech writer for Brown & Root Inc. in the Public Relations Department. At Shell Oil's public affairs department she developed and managed a grassroots lobbying campaign and served as speech writer for Shell Chemical and Financial executives. The corporate stints followed Capitol Hill work as press secretary for U.S. Rep. Dale Milford in the mid-70s.
Goldthwaite also worked in media relations at Brown & Root and Shell Oil, and was a press secretary for Congressman Dale Milford in the mid-1970s.She is the author of two books of Western fiction and has also taught creative writing classes in continuing education programs at SMU and UTA.
