
David Sedeño has been a journalist for more than 25 years at some of the country’s top news organizations, including The Associated Press, The Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
He currently is a member of the editorial board of the Star-Telegram and serves as the publisher of La Estrella, the newspaper’s Spanish-language publication. He began his journalism career in 1979 at the San Angelo Standard-Times while a student at Angelo State University. After graduating from Angelo State in 1983, he joined The Associated Press where he worked as a reporter and correspondent in Texas and California before leaving the organization in 1994 as Chief of Bureau for New Mexico.
In 1995, he joined The Dallas Morning News, beginning a nine-year career at the newspaper in which he held various positions on the metro, state and international desks. He served as the newspaper’s Mexico bureau chief in 2001-2002. In 2004, he became a senior writer at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and in 2005 was named to his current posts.
He is a past board member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the DFW Network of Hispanic Communicators and the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors. He has received several writing awards from the Texas APME and the Dallas Press Club, including a 2003 Katie Award for “Journey of Despair,” which chronicled the ill-fated trip of a Mexican immigrant’s first journey into the United States.
