Before becoming the Director of Real World Integrated Marketing Communications, Claudia Butts ran her own advertising firm for more than 20 years. Her clients included Harris Methodist Health Foundation, Women's Haven, the Fort Worth Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs, the Alliance for Children, and Colonial Savings.

She also worked as a graphic designer at Harris Methodist Health System Creative Services Department and as art director at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram promotion department.

In additional to her professional work in advertising, she also taught graphic arts at Remington College in Fort Worth.
